About the author...
Pamela Rigby
"I started a small riding school in 1972, with 16 stables and two fields. The school expanded over the years. Present facilities include 30 stables, 2 indoor arenas and 2 outdoor arenas and it is approved by the Association of British Riding Schools and the British Horse Society.
"I have acquired a wealth of experience during the course of my chosen career, particularly with riders whom I have helped progress from being novices to becoming capable horse owners.
"I hold the BHS Stable Managers Certificate and am a BHS Intermediate Instructor, as well as an RDA Training Advisor. I was recently awarded a Fellowship of the Association of British Riding Schools, of which I am very proud!
"Owning a horse is an extremely personal decision. I have helped many people choose a horse knowing that a horse becomes a major part of your life! I am very aware of potential problem areas, as well as the great joy and fulfilment that horse owning can bring.
"People had often suggested that I write a book on this subject and, as I am now retired and had the time to spare, I did! The aim of this book is to provide a useful reference for newcomers to horse owning but I hope you will also enjoy reading it.
"Most of the facts are from my own experiences with helping owners, young and old, through the process of acquiring a horse and ending up with a happy horse and rider."
"The photo shows me on my first horse, ‘Pallo’ who was wonderful!"
